EXPANDED
COURSE CURRICULUM
The
following courses are scheduled monthly at the ADC
Austin offices.
Arrangements can also be made to have these courses taught at
your place of business.
This course will give participants an overview of
the application development lifecycle using CA 2E. Hands-on training will be given teaching how to build an
effective business application and will cover important steps such as
defining data model relationships and access paths to retrieve data from
the database. Learn how to
build functions and design screens based on the business relationships
in your data model, and then generate and compile your source code.
CA 2E Foundations is a five day course.
This course expands on “CA 2E
Foundations” by exploring 2E concepts and features in more depth. Participants will learn how to build more sophisticated
applications and improve application performance by incorporating a wide
variety of design considerations.
CA 2E Advanced is a five day course.
CA Plex Foundations is the initial course in
the CA®
Plex Learning Path. The focus of this course is on establishing
the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to develop powerful business
applications in Plex. Participants
will be taken through the recommended CA® Plex
development process. First,
they will learn the basics of local and group models, and how to set up
your development environment. Next,
they will learn how to customize panels and functions through the use of
patterns. Lastly, they will
generate source and compile a complete application, finishing the course
with a working sample application to reference.
CA Plex Foundations is a five day course.
This course expands on the “CA Plex
Foundations” course, and describes the complete pattern library
available with CA® Plex.
Using “hands on” techniques, students will learn the
architecture, purpose, content, appropriate use, and manipulation of the
most used design patterns. When they are finished, they will understand
how to extend patterns through specialization and replacement.
CA Plex Patterns is a three day course.
Our CA Plex Model Management course provides
a solid foundation for CA Repository Management by presenting
CA® Plex team development concepts such as managing
users, managing sub models, re-pointing libraries, and managing data
environments (verb groups, diagram types, control states).
Additionally, participants will learn conflict resolution, levels and
versions, national languages, variants, permissions, and object
flagging. At the end of the course, model managers and team
leads will have the tools necessary to productively manage a multi-user
development environment.
CA Plex Model Management is a two day course.
This course builds on the knowledge and skills
gained from the “CA Plex Foundations” and “CA Plex
Patterns” courses, as it delves more deeply into the techniques
necessary to produce complex, real world applications.
Participants will be introduced to advanced UI features such as
data controls, hierarchies, and COM / JavaBeans components.
Complex action diagram logic and debugging will be addressed.
By the end of the course, they will be comfortable developing a
production quality system.
CA Plex Advanced is a five day course.
CA
Plex Pattern Development And Meta Coding
CA Plex Pattern Development and Meta Coding
is a two day course designed for the advanced developer and prospective
pattern architect who desire to leverage the full value of CA
Plex patterns. Several
topics in this space will be presented, including inheritance engine
details, pattern best practices, and developing a company standards
layer. Meta coding will be
explored in detail, and students will have the opportunity to write meta
code to solve specific business problems. As part of the course, several
real-life patterns will be dissected in the lab.
CA Plex Pattern Development and Meta Coding is a two day course.
This intensive three week course is composed of the major elements of all five of the CA Plex courses and has been tailored to get new developers proficient working in an existing team. It is designed specifically for the person who is new to CA Plex but who has an understanding of data processing, the Windows environment, and some knowledge of database concepts. This series will teach all of the essential CA Plex concepts with the goal of turning out an CA Plex programmer who can go on to be a productive member of an experienced team.
This course will cover local and group models, basic model management, conflict resolution, setting up a development environment, panel design, building functions through the use of patterns, an overview of the pattern libraries, generating, compiling, and debugging.
During the entire three week course, participants will be developing a single cohesive application using CA Plex, using the same development structure that would be applicable to a real life project. In addition, there will be opportunities for self-directed study of advanced topics in the evening and weekends, with experienced ADC Austin mentors available to guide and assist.
