Significance, Explanation

The abbreviation oRPG stands for "object-oriented RPG" within the .NET environment. This is the quickest, most cost-efficient, and most secure method to migrate long-standing AS/400 and iSeries programs to the modern .NET world. The process involves translating the RPG-, CL, and menu programs to .NET and compiling them into DLLs.

The translated programs can then be further developed and newly compiled using various .NET programming languages such as MS Visual Basic, C#, and J#. An alternative is to make changes in the iSeries400 program and to carry out a remigration.

The tool oRPG allows you to scale the degree of independency on the iSeries400. For example, you can continue to use DB2 as a database server and run only the migrated application on a different platform. This achieves a 0% interactive load on the iSeries400. However, it is also possible to become entirely independent from the iSeries400 and to switch to a different database server (e.g., Oracle, SQL-Server, etc.).
